TV Nova is a Czech television channel founded by Vladimír Železný. The channel was launched in 1994 and was the first private TV channel in the Czech Republic. It quickly conquered the market and is now number one among Czech TV channels.
Since October 2007, the channel has started to broadcast news in HDTV format. TV Nova is the first Czech channel to switch its news broadcasts to 16:9 format. It also broadcasts the Czech version of the world famous show Big Brother. January 30, 1993 - The Radio and Television Council (Czech Rada pro rozhlasové a televizní vysílání) issues a 12-year license to CET 21 (Central European Television for 21st Century) to broadcast worldwide.
February 4, 1994 - TV Nova began broadcasting.
August 11, 1997 - CME (Central European Media Enterprises) from CEO Vladimir Zelezny bought NOVA Consulting for $28.5 million, which is almost 6% owned by the Czech independent television company (ČNTS).
